The project “Mindspace: Mental Health in Youth Work” focuses on the mental health needs of young people, especially those at risk. With increasing public and professional attention on young people’s mental health, the project aims to bridge the gap between young people’s needs and the limited resources available within youth organisations and institutions. Young people often face numerous barriers to accessing professional mental health services, and organisations working with them often lack the necessary conditions and expertise to provide ongoing psychological support.

Since its inception, the project has been committed to supporting the mental health of young people through various community-based activities. This includes raising awareness of the importance of mental health, fostering links between young people and support services, and the ongoing development of programmes tailored to the unique challenges of at-risk youth. By equipping youth workers, mentorsand leaders with the right tools, methods and knowledge, Mindspace aims to create sustainable and evidence-based programmes that can be effectively implemented by non-professionals.

Project objectives:

The main objectives of the Mindspace project are:

  • Raise awareness of the importance of mental health in youth work and promote community-based models of mental health support.
  • To develop a sustainable, evidence-based youth work programme with a focus on mental health, designed for easy implementation by youth workers, mentorsand staff in youth organisations.
  • Increase the capacity of youth workers to provide effective mental health support through training and skills development.
Project outcomes:

The project outcomes are:

The Mindspace Handbook: A comprehensive guide for youth workers to support mental health in youth work, based on theoretical foundations and practical experiences from the project.

Enhanced capacities of youth workers: Youth workers received new tools to implement mental health programmes within their organisations and to train others in their networks. 17 participants improved their training skills, their knowledge of mental health and their ability to communicate effectively with young people.
