Educational tools for the promotion of human rights among young people is an international project that aims to improve the quality of human rights education in the youth sector through non-formal education (NFE) methods. The project brings together five partner organisations from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Italy, Portugal and Germany that have been successfully working together in the fields of human rights and music education for over a decade.
Project goals:
Building on 10 years of co-operation through the “Music for Human Rights” youth encounter series, the project addresses a crucial gap in human rights education in Europe. This gap limits the ability of young people to engage in meaningful political participation based on the values and principles of human rights, which ultimately affects their ability to influence decision-making processes and contribute to the development of their community.
The project aims to empower young people to explore and understand human rights through a powerful and universal medium: Music. By integrating music and lyrics, music becomes a dynamic tool for reflection and learning. The lyrics provide concrete examples that can be analysed by young people and discussed with the support of youth workers, emphasising the relevance of human rights in everyday life and their important role in social cohesion.
Project results:
We have developed a comprehensive methodological toolkit specifically tailored to non-formal education with young people. This toolkit includes:
Original songs: We have created two full albums of ten songs each. These songs have been designed to complement non-formal education activities and address a variety of human rights issues.
Non-formal education tools: Each album is accompanied by a collection of educational tools and activities to support youth workers* to facilitate discussions and interactive sessions on human rights topics.
This project aims not only to teach about human rights, but also to inspire young people to understand the importance of human rights, reflect on their impact in society and become active, engaged citizens.
