Youth Exchange:

„Food Exploration: Cooking, creating, connecting“ Berlin, Deutschland | 18.05.26 – 25.05.26

Project type: Multilateral youth exchange.
Project location: Berlin, Germany
Dates: 18.05.2026 – 25.05.2026 (4 schooldays)
Project language: English

Number of participants : 28
Number of participants Roter Baum: 7
Age: 17 – 25 years
Participating countries: Italy, Lithuania, Greece, Germany
Participation fee: 0 Euro

Description:
This youth exchange in Berlin brings together young people from Lithuania, Greece, Italy and Germany to discover food as more than just something we cook or eat. Food becomes a starting point for reflecting on culture, identity, memory, and the systems that shape our daily lives.

While cooking and eating together, and through practical activities, discussions and creative workshops, participants will explore the similarities and differences in their food cultures and habits. We will question how urban food systems work, who has access to which resources and how institutions influence our relationship with food, while celebrating the stories and connections that arise around the table.

Our goal is not only to exchange recipes, but also to create something new from this open conversation. This could be, for example, a small publication, a recipe book, creative documentation or something else collaboratively developed by the group. The process of this common creation is just as important as the result.

We invite people who enjoy cooking and experimenting with new flavours in the kitchen, as well as those who are curious about culture, reflection and creative craft activities. Whether you express yourself through food, conversation or creating with your hands, this exchange offers space to discover and be creative together.

In Berlin’s intercultural landscape, food becomes a common denominator, an opportunity to understand each other better, question perspectives and imagine new ways of living together in the city.

How can these concepts be integrated into our project? Photography will serve as a tool to unite them.

35 participants from five different countries come together to share their thoughts, boost their motivation and inspire each other on various meaningful topics. This project combines creativity, cultural exchange and environmental awareness and takes place in the vibrant city of Berlin. The participating countries include Serbia, Germany, Romania, Italy and Hungary.
