The project explores mobile youth work as an innovative approach to expand youth engagement and services beyond traditional frameworks.
Through this project, our main objective is to increase both the quality and recognition of youth work, while driving innovation in the sector through the exploration of Mobile Youth Work. We want to create a deeper understanding and greater recognition in society, including policy makers, of the critical need to provide sufficient resources for the implementation of quality open youth work. The focus of the project is on innovative mobile youth centre (MYC) initiatives.
Our aim is to promote the concept of MYCs, where young people can meet informally, spend their free time, receive counselling and develop their ideas. While an MYC does not replace a fixed, physical youth centre, it extends its reach by reaching hard-to-reach areas and engaging youth target groups that might otherwise be difficult to integrate into youth centre activities.
Project objectives:
Based on the significant results of the KA2 action projects “Open Youth Work for an Open Society” and “IVY – International Virtual Youth Centre” as well as our extensive experience in the field, we are committed to developing additional tailor-made tools and resources for professionals, youth workers, policy makers and decision makers. Our focus is specifically on the further development of the concept of mobile youth work. With this initiative, we want to close the circle: We have campaigned for the recognition of a youth centre that can operate on site and online, and now with this proposal we are extending its flexibility to also work in external locations through MJZ.
Main activities:
The project unfolds through a series of interconnected activities aimed at developing and promoting Mobile Youth Centres (MYCs) as an innovative approach to youth work. It starts with extensive research, analysing 20 MYC models and activities and collecting scientific studies and good practices. This data will be compiled in a comprehensive database, which will be accessible in several languages and integrated into the project’s website.
On this basis, the project brings together young people and experts through a youth exchange in which the participants help to shape the ideal MJZ model. Their insights will feed into the development of educational resources, visual materials and a structured handbook describing essential tools for the implementation of MYC.
To ensure long-term impact, the project also focuses on policy recommendations and involves youth workers and decision-makers in discussions on the recognition and sustainability of Mobile Youth Work. Handouts and advocacy tools are developed to support policy makers in integrating YYW into youth strategies.
Finally, an extensive dissemination campaign will ensure that the results of the project reach a wide audience. Through multiplier events, media coverage and online engagement, the initiative raises awareness and encourages the uptake of YYC across Europe.
This project is currently being implemented.
