“Roter Baum” Berlin UG, a subsidiary of gKJHG “Roter Baum” mbH, is looking for a youth worker for the “Youth Work Reinickendorf-Nord” project. The position is a fixed-term role running from 1 June 2026 until 30 November 2027 (provisional).
The project combines two established open youth work initiatives:

  • the Reinickendorf-Nord Mobile Youth Centre
  • the “Unterm Dach” Youth Centre in Frohnau

The aim is to provide socially oriented, flexible and needs-based youth work in the Reinickendorf district.

Project description:
The “Youth Work Reinickendorf-Nord” project combines mobile and centre-based open youth work and comprises:

  • mobile, outreach services at various locations within the local community
  • open youth work at the “Unterm Dach” youth centre (Frohnau)

The objectives are to create low-threshold access points, build relationships and, together with young people, develop and implement services tailored to their needs. With our services, we primarily aim to reach young people aged 14 to 26, whilst remaining accessible and open to everyone in this age group and ensuring that our visitors reflect the full diversity of this age group. Both parts of the project utilise both traditional and innovative methods of child and youth work

The advertised position involves the following tasks and areas of work, amongst others:

  • Prevention, values education and educational work in the form of:
    o social-educational group and individual work in the community (both mobile and based at a specific location)
    o Support for young people in challenging life situations
    o Supporting young people in implementing youth culture projects
    o Developing and implementing own projects together with the target group:
    o Supporting young people’s own initiatives:
    o Advising and supporting youth initiatives and groups:
    o Collaborating with and supporting volunteers and self-managed (young) people:
  • Cooperating with the Youth Welfare Office and other network partners:
  • Reflection, evaluation and documentation of social education work
  • Policy development and reporting, public relations work
  • Social administration tasks, e.g. cash management, accounting and contract management.

Key requirements: *

  • Completed training as a state-recognised early years educator or equivalent qualification
  • An attitude aligned with the values of Roter Baum (→ https://www.roter-baum-berlin.de/de/weitere-informationen/ueber-uns/)
  • Good knowledge of SGB VIII
  • Organisational skills and the ability to work independently, resilience and reliability, as well as a willingness to work flexible hours, particularly in the afternoons and evenings and on Saturdays
  • Basic knowledge of concept and quality development
  • A Class B driving licence is required; a Class BE licence is necessary
  • C1 in German language

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience in open youth work
  • Knowledge and experience in counselling
  • Knowledge of ‘new media’ and relationship-building via social networks
  • Knowledge of project planning and sponsorship
