The project is aimed at residents of the area north of the U5 underground line from Böhlener Straße in Hellersdorf-Nord. It is bordered to the north and east by the state border with Brandenburg and to the west by the Hellersdorfer Promenade neighbourhood management area. It is particularly characterised by large housing estates. Many children, young people and their parents, as well as senior citizens, live here.
In recent years, many people have been pushed out of the city centre due to rising rents and many refugees and people with a history of migration have found a new home here. In recent years, the gaps have been closed by new construction and the area is densely populated. The Hönower Weiherkette recreational area is located to the north.
Even before the pandemic, many people were excluded from social, cultural, political or societal participation or equal opportunities – virtually left behind. There are hardly any facilities or offers for social or cultural participation and the supply of shops is limited to a discounter and there are only a very limited number of jobs.
Activities – free and outdoors – such as those we are planning can bring people together to meet, exchange ideas, take an interest in their living environment and want to shape it or simply have fun together. The programmes are primarily aimed at children and young people and their families.
They are “openers” for providing concrete neighbourhood support, counteract loneliness and promote personal involvement and the strengthening of neighbourhoods. Low-threshold activities, such as the creation of meeting places, small parties in playgrounds and events in public spaces, free excursions, information material on low-cost municipal art, culture and social offers, especially for Berlinpass holders, music and dance, balcony cinema, window and balcony talks, projects for political education, projects for environmental design, participation in the citizens’ budget or district budget and more are conceivable.
